About the service
ORIX Engineering Consultants
Once the architectural and structural design is complete, MEP design begins, matched to the furniture layout and to the air-conditioning units, sanitary fittings and electrical points on the drawings. These systems are hidden after finishing, but they decide how comfortable the building is and what it costs to run for years.
For electrical work we calculate the required loads and size the cables, wiring and distribution boards. For air-conditioning we calculate the heat load of each room and choose the type of system that suits it — essential in Oman’s climate. For plumbing we design the water supply, pipe sizes, drainage and falls, and the pump calculations where one is needed.
We also design low-current systems: CCTV, data and telephone networks, central TV reception, access control, and audio and smart systems. We prepare the electrical drawings for approval by the relevant authority.
Common questions
MEP Design
What does MEP mean?
It stands for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of a building: air-conditioning and ventilation, power and lighting, and water supply and drainage.
Why design it in the same office as the architecture and structure?
Because ducts and pipes cross beams and slabs. Early coordination prevents breaking out and rework on site.
Do you design smart-home systems?
Yes, as part of the low-current systems: control, CCTV, networks and audio.
